Radiomir

The styling of the Radiomir can be traced to the first watch that Panerai manufactured for the royal Italian navy in 1938. The screwed winding-crown and the screwed case back made this watch uncommonly water-resistant. Furthermore, its dial remained readily legible, even under unfavorable conditions, because the markings and hands were coated with a noctilucent substance containing zinc sulfate, mesothorium and radium bromide. The names of these materials were abbreviated to coin the name of the new watch: Radiomir.
